10th Argylle and Sutherland Highlanders were part of 27 Brigade, 9th Division. They had been heavily involved in the Battle of Loos in the autumn of 1915 and the first half of 1916 was spent in the Ploegsteert sector of the front line in Belgium. Bertie Hoft died of wounds on 7th May, 1916  but as yet there is no information as to when and where he was wounded.
